When you are
confident and comfortable, you do not worry. And who wants to worry?
I’ve heard worrying described as
“praying for what we don’t want.”
Worrying over what you will pray about makes praying a task or a chore.
Worrying that we don’t know how to pray invites a fear of unsuccessful prayer.
Worrying that we don’t know the right
time or place to pray adds to that unsuccessful feeling, too.
That feeling is false. No act of praying can be unsuccessful. Even if my prayer doesn’t bring what (I think) I want.
By praying you become accustomed to praying. I don't mean and I’m not talking about practicing. Every time you pray, you pray. There’s no such thing as a practice prayer.
Here’s the good part: the more accustomed you become with praying, the more comfortable your praying becomes for you. When you become more comfortable, you become more confident in your praying.
And the truth is this: the more you pray, the more you want to pray. The reverse statement can be true: the more you want to pray, the more you pray.
But deciding to pray (more) is all up to you.
What is prayer followed by worrying? A lack of faith. This is a great reminder for anyone wanting to leverage the power of prayer. And it is especially timely for me as I needed to be reminded of this today.
